Cariloha took root in the islands. It’s our home. That relaxing, island-vibe look and feel is beautifully captured and curated in our brand imagery. But, who’s one of the main faces behind all the stunning images and branding? At Cariloha, that would be Kaitlin, our Sr. Graphic Designer.
From our resort showroom graphics and signage to our e-commerce content and campaigns, and so much more, Kaitlin adds her creative touch to join Caribbean style with Aloha Spirit, bringing it to life in everything Cariloha.
We were able to sit down and chat with Kaitlin about her creative journey and processes and, today, we’re taking you ‘Behind the Seams’ to learn more about Kaitlin and her inspirations.
Where does your inspiration come from when designing for Cariloha?
We have a couple key brand messages here at Cariloha – The Style of the Caribbean Meets the Spirit of Aloha™ and A Comfy Way to Save the Planet™ – that we endeavor to portray and bring to life. When creating a design, I look for a harmonious balance between those two messages, incorporating the way I think unique images appeal to different people.
I want our design to complement our products and to reflect our soft and sustainable message that our brand stands for. It’s a balancing act that illustrates Cariloha’s “soft, cool, clean and green™” products in a way that resonates with our customers.
What bed design do you like these days?
I love the beautiful-mess bed look, where blankets, pillows, and sheets are piled together in billowing comfort. Something that’s perfectly unkept, and you can see yourself laying in, makes it more appealing. A plush duvet, layers of blankets and lots of fluffy pillows, create an insatiable feeling of wanting to jump in and curl up all day long.
It’s all about layering of textures and careful draping that makes a bed look irresistible.
What do you like most about our products?
I love the amazing benefits and qualities that bamboo brings to our products. The softness and comfort are unbelievable and, to have it be naturally sustainable, makes it so much better when it feels great and is helping the planet at the same time.
It’s comical how hooked I am on Cariloha. You almost forget how much you rely on the comfort until you’re on vacation and can’t wait to get home again to your Cariloha sheets and bed.
What are some of your go-to Cariloha products?
I definitely can’t pick just one, so here are my favorites and most-used products.
Resort Sheets – I have a hard time sleeping in anything else. I love that smooth, cool feeling every night when I jump into bed.
Linen Duvet Cover – I love the feel of this texture and the comfy relaxed style it brings to my bed. It brings my whole room together.
Joggers – My weekend go-to pants. They’re a great way to stay comfy and stylish at the same time.
Bathrobe – I never used to wear robes until I got this one. Now it’s a staple.
Why do you design the way you do?
I have a passion for the subtleties of typography. I love the challenge of creating a pleasing hierarchy within a design. I like to keep things clean and let the product speak for itself, while also making sure it’s understandable to our customers.
There it is everyone! A small glimpse inside the mind of Cariloha’s creative, Kaitlin. When she isn’t designing something beautiful at work, she enjoys being at home with her husband, playing with their adorable daughter and spending quality time with her family.
